In MED4101 Studying the Media and Communication I was introduced to the process of actually undertaking undergraduate study. I learnt about some of the methodological approaches I could take in order to study the media, understood why I would apply them and I then applied such methodological approaches.

I was also asked to investigate and apply theoretical frameworks in order to make sense of the research findings I had under covered via my methodological approaches. This was an introduction to how to approach studying the media.

As a first year undergraduate, I will need far more practice and a greater understanding of the theoretical field to fully develop solid arguments in my work. All my academic work should be well supported through contextualised research and this module focuses on broadening my understanding of the theoretical field around TV, Film and Video.

This term is all about expanding my skills in academic reading, developing a well informed argument, understanding the academic nature of research development and building a solid thesis in my academic work.

There are two elements to the assessment in MED4104, which go towards the final mark. Both these elements are:

Assignment One 40%: Reading Diary

Assignment Two 60%: Research Project
